SBT is seeking to cast 15-20 actors age 8 -16 for their Spring youth show based on the book by L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, adapted by Eileen Mitchell, to be directed by Madeline Franklin

Based on L. Frank Baum’s novel published in 1900, the story follows the adventures of a Kansas farm girl, Dorothy Gale, as she is carried by a cyclone to the marvelous land of Oz where she befriends colorful characters, and encounters many setbacks on her journey to meet the Wizard who can help her get home.

With unforgettable roles for actors, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. showcases an ensemble of talented actors!

Auditions are 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Steel Beam Theatre, located at 111 West Main Street St Charles, IL 60174 No appointment is necessary. Actors will be seen in the order that they arrive. A free parking garage is available on the South side of the building. You may enter the theatre on the South side through the Plaza.

Actors age 8 -16 auditioning will read sides from the script, and will be given a simple song to sing with a group. Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move easily. Please bring an acting resume if you have one and also a photo (candid one is acceptable). Information sheets will be provided to fill out at the theatre for those who do not have a resume available. Dorothy – an adventurous Kansas farm girl
Toto – Dorothy’s spunky dog
Aunt Em- Dorothy’s caring aunt
Uncle Henry- Dorothy’s practical uncle
Scarecrow – an optimistic man of straw
Tin Man – a helpful man made of tin
Lion- a timid, comical beast
Glinda- a fairy godmother-like enchantress
Munchkin Mayor- a proud leader
Munchkins(1-3/Lollys/Flowers)- cheerful & welcoming
Wicked Witch- evil, with a scary sense of humor
Winged Monkeys(1-6/2 Minions)- the Witch’s spooky companions
Wizard of Oz- a bluffer, intimidating but secretly well-meaning
Guards 1 & 2- businesslike but helpful
Ozzette - curious
Ozzy - upbeat
Chicken - energetic
Pig - comical
Cow - friendly


Cyclone Dancers- mysterious & serious
Munchkins- charming and happy
Crows - pesky
Trees- ranging from scared to scary
Woodland Creatures – mischievous
Winged Monkeys- spooky
Poppies – calming and hypnotic
Citizens - peppy

Rehearsals begin April 3rd and will be held on Wednesdays and Saturdays with additional rehearsals if necessary. You must be available for all rehearsals through the performances. Showtimes are: May 10. 11 and 12, 2019

Once casting is complete, youth that have been cast will pay a production-based tuition fee of $200 which is due prior to the first rehearsal date. Financial assistance is available to families in need. To inquire about scholarships please contact Lori Holm via email at
