Theatre Education And Performance

Steel Beam Youth Theatre Classes offer a nurturing environment in an intimate setting for young people whether they have performance experience or they are exploring this world for the first time. The SBT youth program instills the fundamentals of confidence, teamwork, self-worth, and creativity whether on stage, backstage, acting, singing, dancing or improvisation led by a team of instructors who also work as professional performers.

The SBT Youth Acting Classes are held at the STEEL BEAM STUDIO Rehearsal Space

Head East on Main Street (Rt 64)
cross the Fox River bridge drive through light at Rt 25
TURN LEFT (North) on 9th AVE

Take the first LEFT (West) into the small parking lot located on the back side (North side) of the brick building 1020 Cedar Ave
Follow signage and walk the ramp leading down to STEEL BEAM STUDIO

Meet Our Instructors

Julie Bayer

Julie Bayer

Julie Bayer is no stranger to Steel Beam Theatre having performed in various productions since 2005. Her career spans twenty years appearing in operas, musicals, and plays. She has her Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University and her Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Manhattan School of Music. She is also a licensed Zumba® instructor. She has been teaching drama for afterschool programs in the western suburbs for two years prior to joining the Steel Beam faculty. She enjoys helping students explore the creative aspects of theater through character development, movement, and music.

Heidi Swarthout


Heidi Swarthout

Heidi Swarthout is thrilled to work on and off the Steel Beam stage. She has been acting, directing, writing, and teaching theatre in the Fox Valley area for fifteen years. She has a Bachelors of Arts in Theatre and English from Marietta College. She loves working with the youngest student actors at Steel Beam, by playing creative games focused on voice, facial expressions, movement, and storytelling.
