Stage Combat For Young People

steelbeam theatre summer camps for youth includes stage combat skillsIf you have a young Wonder Woman or Mighty Thor at home, this is the summer camp where they'll learn to be safe while fighting crime and supervillains. They'll learn how it's done without anyone getting hurt. Well, that's what this class is all about! You will find that it's more fun to perform the fight on stage than watching the fight from the audience.

Stage combat is an illusion. It’s a combination of physical training and acting. Remember this: fighting is telling a story. A playwright wouldn’t have put a fight scene into the play without a purpose. This three-hour class will have two sections, one on unarmed combat and the next on sword fighting. You will also act, for it is acting that brings your fight to the audience.

Story Acting for Young Performers

Has your young actor ever loved a story so much that they wanted to act it out or become the main character? Well now is their chance! This playful and energy filled camp gives your little one their first taste of theatre while reinforcing essential literacy aspects such as plot, characters, setting, problem-solving, and more! During this game-based camp, your child will learn all about acting basics and get to read, experiment with, and act out at least one children's story each day! (Don't worry! Campers do not have to be able to read in order to participate in this camp). Actors will be working in small groups and as a whole group to bring each story to life and add in their own personal style. Disappointed that you don't get to witness all the fun? Never Fear! We will be holding an open showcase at the end of the week so that campers get a real taste of what performing for their friends and family is really like!
