Aladdin opens Oct. 15 on Children's Stage
Take a magic carpet ride to ancient Arabia during our Children's Theatre production of Aladdin and His Wonderful, Magical Lamp, a musical that opens Friday, October 15, and runs through Sunday, November 7.
In celebration of Aladdin’s opening, California Pizza Kitchen in Geneva Commons will donate 20% of diners' bills on Oct. 16 to the Theatre. Diners must present this flyer to their server when ordering.
Aladdin and His Wonderful, Magical Lamp transports audiences to an exotic world of genies, dragons and sultans. Aladdin (Jonathan Cruz) and his mischievous monkey, Alakazam, (Catherine Johnson), live in the city of Shammar. Their constant pranks around the neighborhood and at the local bazaar draw complaints from local merchants and neighbors. But one day Aladdin meets the beautiful Princess Jasmine (Cassie Bukley) and Aladdin vows he will settle down and marry her.
The evil magician Jammal (Brendan Walsh) has other plans. Legend had foretold of a boy named Aladdin who is the only one allowed to enter a mysterious cave to capture a genie’s lamp that bestows great power on its owner. Clever Aladdin tricks Jammal, claims the magical powers of the lamp for himself, wins the heart of Princess Jasmine and builds a beautiful palace where he plans to live happily ever after. But Jammal is not so easily conquered and returns with an evil plan to take everything Aladdin has – the palace, the magic lamp, and his beloved Jasmine.
Aladdin was written by Tim Kelly, with music and lyrics by Pam Hughes. Director is Daina Giesler and Music Director is Amy Steele.
The Aladdin cast includes: Catherine Johnson, Maddy Kozar, Anna Masini and Joe Masini of Batavia; Cassie Bukley of Bolingbrook; Sarah Andersson, Clare Braun, Rhea Chandran, Marissa Clifford, Tommy Hintz, Kathleen Miulli, Ellie Petit, Maddie Petit and Mary Kate Stanfa of Geneva; Emily Marron of Glendale Heights; Jonathan Cruz, Madeline Farace, Madalynn Isbell, Molly Knight, Jenny Leben, Sofie Peltier and Erin Telfer of St Charles; Jacob Gallaher, Lindsey Gallaher and Hayden Stecker of South Elgin; Sara Monteleone, Jack Nelson, Zandra Starks, and Brendan Walsh of West Chicago.
The Steel Beam Children’s Theatre motto is “It’s What Happens Off-Stage That Counts." SBT believes theatre is not just about winning a starring role, and during the process of rehearsal and presentation critical life skills are developed like communication, respect, discipline and teamwork.
