Now playing on our Main Stage is Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit, a romantic comedy that Leah Zeldes of The Daily Herald calls "an ethereal confection of a play that nevertheless shows the playwright's keen and cutting wit."
The show , first produced in WWII-era England, is something of a period piece, adds Zeldes. "But there's life in the old ghost yet, as Steel Beam Theatre's hilarious staging shows."
The story centers on Charles (R. Aaron Thomann), a widowed and remarried novelist who asks the flamboyant medium Madame Arcati (Donna Steele) to get in touch with "the other side." But it's a (relatively) benign presence who answers the summons: Elvira (Jocelyn Mills), Charles's deceased first wife, who has quite a bit to say -- mostly about his new wife, Ruth (Katherine Bettinghaus). Our production also features Meredith Koch, Thom Reed and Nancy Kolton, and is directed by Terry Domschke.
